DROWNING FATALITIES.
Auckland, February 28. ]{.. E. Fleming, chief steward of i.lie Government steamer Hinemoa, was drowned in the Manukau Harbour early this morning. A party of officers were on a cruise in a launch in the harbour and anchored for the night. About three o’clock Fleming got up to tix a ventilator, and as he seemed to take a long lime, other members of the party went on deck and found that he had fallen overboard. They saw him swimming against the tide, so pulled up anchor and drifted down near him, but before a rescue could lie affected he sank.
Edward Horlock, aged about 20 years was drowned oft' Bean Rock in the Waitemata Harbour on Saturday afternoon. He was a member of the crew of the fourteen-footer Avalon (not the Sander Cup boat) which was participating in a harbour race, when the boat capsized in a' heavy sea. The three other occupants managed to cling on to the keel of the boat, but Horlock, who could not swim, disappeared almost immediately.- It is thought he must have received a blow on the head when the capsize took pßtce.
