BICYCLE STEALER.
SENTENCED TO THREE MONTHS.
Auckland, Last Night.
“At present there Ijs quite an epidemic of bicycle stealing and I would ask your Worship to make an example of accused,” said Chief Detective Cummings at the Police Court this morning, after John Hamlin had pleaded guilty to the theft of a bicycle valued at £l2 the property of David George Darker.
Detective-Sergeant Issell said the cycle was stolen from the railway employees’ stand at the Auckland station, and sold by accused to a dealer for £3. The Chief Detective said, although Hamlin had not been in trouble before, he was married and lived apart from his wife and child. He had not made much of an effort to maintain them.
"Acting on the request of the Chief Detective, Magistrate Poynton sent Hamlin to gaol for three months.
