WHEAT AND FLOUR.
LARGE DEPUiTATION TO MINISTERS. Wellington, Yesterday. A large deputation, representative of flourmiliers, poultrymen, master bakers and dairy farmers of both Islands, waited on the Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture to-day to discuss various phases of the wheat question. The proceedings were not open to the press. The dairy farmers were interested in the matter from the point of offal supplies for cattle and pigs. The deputation asked that wheat should be admitted free of duty, but urged that the duty of £3 a ton on flour should be retained. Subsequently the Minister of Agriculture stated he had told the deputation that it was his desire to stabilise the position in regard to wheat and flour as son as possible, in order that the various interests concerned might be enabled to make future arrangements with full knowledge of the situation. Cabinet, of course, had to lay down a_,* v policy, but the Government would'wv go into the matter thoroughly and give an early reply.
