MILITARY CAMP.

About 200 men, of the 19th Battery, Wellington, arrived in camp at midday to-day. The men left Wellington by train this morning and transhipped at Levin, arriving in Foxton per motor lorry, at a little after 12 o’clock.

The camp is under the command of Major Haughton and the Adjutant is Captain T. .Farr. A squad of men have been busy all the week making ready for the arrival of the men to-day. Fortunately line weather has favoured them in this direction and as a result the work has been carried out in quick time. Two five-ton Holt tractors left Wellington on Wednesday, under the charge of Lieutenant Duff, with two sixty-pound guns and arrived in camp this morning. A good trip was experienced and no difficulties were encountered on the road. This is the second trip the Holt tractors have made to Foxton.

Four sixty-pounders and two six pounders arrived by rail during the week and have been unloaded and removed to the camp.

The big shoot of this camp will take place on Thursday afternoon next, but live shell practice with the big guns will be indulged in throughout the week and with the six pounders between the hours of (i a.m. and 7.30 a.in.

The liev. Major Watson of St. Peter’s, Wellington, who saw service in France, will be the padre of the camp while the 19th Battery is under canvas. A church parade will be held at the camp to-morrow morning and int he evening Major Watson will conduct the service at All Saint’s Church.

Dr. Wyllie will carry out the duties of camp medical officer.
