BOWLING.

VISIT TO OTAKI,

Yesterday afternoon ten players from Foxton Club journeyed to Otaki to engage in friendly play with members of that Club.

Rain fell shortly after noon, making Otaki green a little heavy, but the weather cleared before the arrival of the visitors, and the bright weather and pleasant surroundings contributed to make the afternoon most, enjoyable. Arriving a little behind schedule, the visiting bowlers engaged in two games of 16 heads each, which carried play well into the evening. The result of the games was that Foxton was eleven points ahead in the aggregate, and succeeded in winning four games out of six. Bax and Noble played for Foxton to complete the third

rink. Otaki bowlers received their'visitors right royally and treated them to a most, enjoyable afternoon’s sport, the unanimous-., opinion of those making the trip being that it was a really worth-while outing. The details are as follows: McKnight, Downes, Barr, Nye (s) 17; Ilawea, Nicholson, Wyatt, Smith (s) 13. Walton, Wjalker, Huntley, Woods (s) 23; Witchell, Baxter, Freeman, Satherley (s) 15. Evans, Moore, Aymes, Wilmott (s) 15; Spring, Parkes, Bax, Noble (s) 10. Second round. —Nye 16 v. Wilmott 13; Woods 26 v. Smith 16; Satherley 20 v. Noble 11. The aggregate scores were Foxton 103, Otaki 92. One incident worthy of note occurred in Wpods’ game against Satherley. On the seventh head Satherley was nine to Woods’ five. By a very accurately judged shot, Woods dislodged an opposing bowl by striking one of his own bowls lying adjacent, and notched a seven for his good play; the next head Woods again measured in six, making thirteen points in two succeeding heads, which gave him a lead that was hard for his opponents to overtake.

Before taking his departure, the president of Foxton Club (Rev. W. 11. Walton) thanked Otaki bowlers for the very pleasant afternoon the visitors had spent, Mr. Freeman responding on behalf of the home Club. Cheers were given and returned, and a similar compliment extended to the ladies for supervising a very tasty afternoon tea. It is anticipated Otaki bowlers will pay a return visit to Foxton shortly. *
