DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

The attention of parents of intending pupils for Foxton District High School is drawn to an advertisement appearing in this issue. The headmaster, (Mr. F. A. Mason) will be in attendance at the local school every afternoon this week between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and will he pleased to meet parents and guardians interested. It is desired that enrolment should he made as soon as possible so that classification of putzils may be made Jzefore school ojzens on Tuesday next. For the general information of parents we wish to state that should the ,rpll number be 35 or moz’e two specially qualified teachers will be appointed to carry out the work of the secondary department. The work done will he in preparation for the following examinations. For those pupils prepared to stay at least two years, the intermediate, Public (Service Entrance, and the Senior National Scholarship examinations and for those prepared to put in three or four years’ work, the Matriculation examination.

The establishment of a District High School in our town is a step in the right direction and it will largely depend upon the support given to the institution by the parents of eligible pupils whether or not further educational facilities come our way.

No community can afford to lag behind educationally any more than it can commercially and we trust, therefore, that parents will do their part by giving the secondary classes about to be opened their fullest support.

The Scdiool Committee has had a long battle with the authorities and has at last overcome all opposition raised. It now remains to be seen whether the people of Foxton and its environs appreciate the efforts put forth on their behalf and on behalf of the educational welfare of Ihe rising generation. We must earnestly hope to learn that when the school opens on Tuesday next, there will be a full attendance of all those children in the district who are entitled to ho enrolled.
