From a fair start Tutankhamen and Hyde Park were the first away, and when the field had settled down the pair were in front from Ruby Ring, Beaumont and Bonogne. The latter came fast nearing home and was well clear at the distance, but had to be hard ridden to shake off Beaumont. Then came Hyde Park, Loyal. Maid and Ruby Ring.

From a splendid start Duetto, on the rails, temporarily showed out, but The Bolter quickly ran into the lead, followed by Epistle, Duetto and Quillfire. The last-men-tioned looked like winning at the distance, but bored away from the whip, causing Johnson to steady him to prevent cannoning into Epistle. Hus cost Quillfire the race. As they raced out of the straigt Comedy Prince improved Imposition and a little iarther on was m tlie van, and with Raliere piloted the Held to the bend lor home, where Koauau ran into third place. At the distance the latter had the race in safe keeping and was never atterwams troubled, being lour lengths in advance of Suspicion, with Taweln ugood third. Waimatao pulled up a trine lame.

At the distance the Foxtontrained Rangi Sarto put in a strong challenge and gradually overhauling Santa Fe, won by half a length, a similar distance between second and third. At the distance First Acre had the field settled, and going on won easily by two lengths, third horse being a length away. Hyde Park was fourth.

Duetto got going quickly, the others to show out being Cloverlea, Koval Land, Empire Camp and Koval Elm. At the four-furlong peg Land ran into second place, Koval Elm and Empire Camp improving their positions. With heads turned for home Duetto looked all over a winner, hut Johnson brought Epistle along with a well-timed run and had half a length to spare at the finish, Koyal Elm being a head away third. Koyal Land and Empire Camp were close up.
