OUR SEASIDE RESORT.

The local Chamber of Commerce has taken an active interest in popularising th elocal seaside, and at its last meeting recommended that steps be taken to consider some means of giving wider publicity to its attractiveness as a health and holiday resort. The river foreshore pffords ideal and safe bathing facilities, while the ocean beach, with its miles of soft sand, is unsurpassed for sea surfing. The meeting stressed the necessity, however, for improved reading access. An ideal roadway has been formed by the Harbour Board but it is practically useless until laid down with a permanent surface. It is hoped that the Board, which is sympathetic, will arrange to have this road completed without delay.

The Chamber was also of opinion that the erection of a tea kiosk and sleeping cubicles, as obtained at Otaki seaside, would meet a pressing demand and oculd be made self-supporting. The Board has set aside an area for this purpose. Many people from adjoining districts would thus be induced to spend week-ends there as at present the housing accommodation is insufficient for casual visitors. The recommendation for week-end railway excursions is also worthy of acceptation by the railway authorities. . .
