GAMING CHARGES. * £IOO FINE FOR ONE OFFENDER. Waipukurau, January 15. • In the Magistrate’s Court this morning, George Bull appeared on charges of using premises as a common gaming house, and of betting upon the result of the Liverpool Handicap and the Stratford Cup. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded till February 12. Edward Hooper was convicted and discharged for being in the Pukeroa Sanatorium without lawful excuse. On a charge that in August he used the premises of the sanatorium as a common gaming house, he was fined £lO and 7/- costs. The transactions were not regarded as very consequential. Percy Edmund Tremaine pleaded guilty to two charges of using premises in Waipukurau as a common gaming house, and was lined £SO on each charge and 7/- costs. It was shown that the transactions had been considerable, and that he had banked £1,490 in ten months, and £l,lOl in two months recently.
