Two girls while indulging in the sport of aqua-planing on Lake Rotoiti (near Rotorua] had a narrow escape from drowning recently. Supported by a life-buoy, they were being towed along by a launch. As the craft gathered speed their heads became submerged and they began to swallow water. Their peril was observed, and, with the aid of a picnicker from the shore, who swam out, the girls were rescued, but not before they were seriously affected by the water they had swallowed.
