The Vic. Badeley benefit footbal match in Auckland has resulted in i •lieque for £315 being handed t that player.
It is stated on good authority that the Hon. W. Downie Stewart will take the portfolio of Finance and that Mr. E. P. Lee will be Minister for Justice in the new Cabinet. Mr. Peter B. Kyne, the American novelist, ,i;s due in New Zealand shortly, to spend a holiday in Gisborne with his cousin, Mr. M. J. Kyne.
That the good work accomplished by the Piunket Society is being increasingly recognised may be gathered from the response to an appeal recently issued by the Mayor of Dunedin on behalf of the local branch of the society. Last week £2OOO was received by the treasurer, the donors being Mrs and Miss Massey, in memory of the late Horatio A. Massey, of Invercargill. A Christchurch baker who failed to provide coverings for his bread was proceeded against by the Health Inspector last week. He pleaded guilty to failing to protect bread on the top of his motor delivery van. It was announced this was the first prosecution under the new regulations. The bread was being taken to a shop in the van. A penalty of £1 was imposed, the case being regarded as a warning. . A second baker was convicte dand ordered to pay costs for having bread in a basket without a covering.
