FATAL ACCIDENT.
SHUNTER RUN OVER BY TRUCK.
Hamilton, Last night,
A shocking fatality occurred at the Erankton Railway yards late yesterday afternoon, when a middleaged man, employed as leading shunter, named James Macka.v, lost his life by being run over while shunting trucks. The circumstances are distressing, the deceased leaving a wife, and live children, all under fourteen years the youngest being seven months old. Deceased was working with a couple of other railway employees and about half a dozen trucks were being shunted. The victim was travelling along in the customary manner, standing between a couple of trucks. On stepping down on the long brake handle, he missed his footing, one' foot being caught between the line and the wheel and resulted in deceased being dragged under the truck which passed over the left thigh, practically severing the limb. Maekay died within a few minutes from shock.
At the inquest a verdict was returned of death as the result of shock and hemorrhage, through being run over by a railway truck, no blame being attachable to anyone.
