HEALTH FOR 100 YEARS.
A short timesince we published a short article written by the editor of this journal touching on the American health campaign. At the request of a number of our readsrs we have decided to reproduce some of the health talks:— Millions die young every year for the misusing of the digestive organs. Eating foods that have no food value and our list of these is very large. Eating foods that are adulterated and that contain preservaties, together with wrong combinations of our perfect foods. The number of deaths caused by indigestion each year runs into the hundreds of thousands in America alone. You often hear people say, ‘Oh, I can eat anything.” They may today, but there will come a time when they will'see their mistake. Thousands and thousands, die each year of diabetes, never realising that improper eating is the cause. The same can be said of Bright’s Disease, High Blood Pressure, Asthma, Catarrh, Rheumatism, Gout, Gall Stones, Appendicitis, etc. Over five hundred million dollars are spent every month in the United States for things that are injurious, in fact real enemies of the mind and body, real destroyers of the life cells. Statistics show that five hundred thousand, out of every million children born in America die before maturity. What is the cause of this? Wrong food. In the laboratory of the Chemistry Department of the United States government at Washington, D. C., you will find a list of foods labelled “Baby Killers.” You can buy these foods at most of the stores in America today. A sound nervous system makes a sound mind, you cannot have a sound nervous system unless you supply your body with the material to build sound nerves. If you are suffering with nervous trouble you may lay it to hard work and many other things, but remember you have eaten your way into this condition, unless it is causeci,.by some inherited blood disease such as Syphilis, etc. Remember that health drives away all feelings of depression, discouragement, melancholy, etc., while poor health causes them. A person with a strong, vigorous vitality never has to fear epidemics, he knows that his body is immune to them. He knows that he ’ will not die just in the prime of life. Strong vitality is built only with right food. Eat right and you will retain your hearing and your eyesight and live to a very advanced age.
You must realise the importance of eating food that will rebuild the body rather than that which merely pleases the palate. There are millions of people that eat food daily than can never make good blood, others eat food that they are unable to digest, which only forms poison in the body. Anything taken into the body that is not a food is really an enemy. This applies to both food and drink. Tea and coffee are not food. It is almost impossible to get unadulterated chocolate, fruit juices served at soda fountains are nearly always made juices instead of real fruit juices. It you knew what was put into some of our canned goods to save them, no one could hire you to eat them. Remember that all the medicines in the world will not restore health, as long as you are eating the wrong food, and remember that “Right Food is the Only Remedy.” A person eating a breakfast of fried potatoes, hot cakes, and a cup of coffee is suppling fuel to the body but no vitamines. You cannot stay young and healthy on this kind of diet. On the other hand, a breakfast of fruit and dairy products will supply all that is needed to rebuild and is a perfect breakfast, no matter how hard you are working. Never eat starches with fruits. Never use sugar with fruits. The best way is to mix sweet and acid fruits together instead of using sugar. A grape fruit or pineapple is perfect, as it comes from nature, but will always work harm when eaten with sugar. Dates, figs and raisins possess twenty times more food value than either meat or fish. Cream cheese is a complete food in itself. Weak stomachs have no trouble in digesting this nutritious food when eaten with fruits. W hen eating meats do not cat anything else except green vegetables and you will be eating to live.
