HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
DECEMBER MEETING
The monthly meeting' of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board was held in Levin on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. G. A. Monk (chairman), W. H. Gunning, A. A. Browne, A Ross, W!. E. Barber, C. Kilsby. Mr. J. A. Smith, Board’s Engineer, and Mr. T. R. Overton, consulting Engineer, were also present. It was decided to place an order for two Morris one-ton trucks, Mr. Sawtell to take the Board’s two present trucks, allowing £lls for them. The price to be £3lO per truck, including self starter, speedometers which cost approximately £6 in consideration of two trucks being ordered are to be supplied at least at half cost. TREASURER’S REPORT. The Treasurer reported:— £BO,OOO Loan from A.M.P. Society. —The next half yearly interest on this loan is due in Sydney on the 21st instant, consequently the amount £2200 is amongst the accounts to be passed at this meeting. The third year’s Sinking Fund in .connection with this loan amounting ot £BOO is about due and must soon be paid to the Public Trustee. The rate of exchange to Sydney at date is 7s (id per cent. Second Loan of £40,000 from the Government Life Insurance Department. —On the Ist instant the last instalment of this loan, amount £2OOO, came duly to hand. The interest accrued on the loan, amounted to £992 14s Id, and this sum being deducted from the instalment reduced the amount paid into the Bank to £IOO7 5s lid. New Loan of £20,000.— Since the last meeting of the Board all formalities in connection with the raising of this loan were complied with, the debentures were signed and handed over to the solicitors of the Go\ - eminent Life Insurance Department, and £15,000 of the loan monies have since been paid to the Board’s account at the Bank. The balance of the loan under the agreement is payable at the end of February, less the interest on the £15,000 to that date. The half-yearly repayment of debentures in connection with tins loan will fall due on the 28th day ot: February and the 31st day ot August: in every year. The amount of each half-yearly debenture is £<>7S 8s 3d.
Receipts. —Since last meeting C 978 has been collected for installations and service lines, and £IO9B for the supply of electricity and for motors and ranges. The receipts from April Ist to dale tor power sales, and ranges and motors have been £1(1,201).
Expenditure for the month amt accounts for payment. Dn the pa\ roll for the day the largest amount is for the interest already mentioned viz., £2200 due shortly in Sydney. Hard drawn hare copper cable account- for over £llOO, poles for £535, whilst T. B. Gable, water heating elements, ranges, meters, fuses, benzine and tyres each account for a very considerable sum. The total, including the interest on loan comes to £5240. Installations: —The amount owing to the Board is approximately £15,000, about two-thirds of which is in the advances to consumers ledger, and is consequently bearing interest.
The report was adopted. ENGINEER’S REPORT,
The Engineer reported as follows on the work carried out during the past month: — No 1. Wire Gang cleaned and painted street light fittings in Shannon Borough, put down a bank of earth pipes and erected a set of lightning arresters at the sub-sta-tion at Seifert’s mill. Also erected 19 service poles, ran 708 chains of wire, 9 services and completed No. 2 Foxton sub, and livened up this
area. No. 4 Wire Gang’ working in Levin, Foxlon, Olmu, Manakau and Oiaki, have erected 12 service poles 18 services and 814 chains ol: wire. They ran the E.H.T. from Tiro Tiro Road along Queen Street, Levin, to the new sub, also did the necessary cutting out to isolate the area served from the main sub. Sub-station Fitters have completed Paraparaumu Valley Road, No. 2 Foxlon, Speir’s mill and Queen Street subs., working on subs V aikanae Beach Road, North Manakau Road and Simeox’s. Test Room. —20 Polyphase and G2 single phase meters have been tested, (> ranges tested, and dried out and 10 ranges delivered to con-
sumers. New Consumers. —The more important consumers collected up during the period are, Hotel Arcadia, 38^lights; Ross, Rough llaxmill, 40 h.p. The following have been connected up: 47 new consumers 19 ranges, 32 water heaters, 10 milking motors, and 15 consumers have applied for extensions. General. —Mr. Barber and I met representatives of the Manawatu County Council and Fox ton Borough Council on the spot with reference to the County Councill’s request for us to alter the position of our pole at the corner of Purcell Street and Whirokino Road and it was decided that the road be given a greater sweep at the corner which would give the necessary improvement without moving the pole. The report was adopted. The chairman wished the members of the Board the compliments of the season. The work of the Board had gone on smoothly during the year and he thanked the members for their attention to business. He included the staff and press in his felicitations.
