CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.
A glance through our advertising columns will indicate to the public where to go for Christmas purchases. Local business people are to be commended for their enterprise in catering for the wants of all classes of the community. A visit to the local stores will convince the most sceptical that it will pay them to shop in their own town. FATHER CHRISTMAS AT THE C. M ROSS COY.’S.
Father Christmas on his annual rounds paid a visit to Foxton a short time ago and spent sufficient time to interview the manager of the C. M. Ross Coy. This welcome visitor does not get round personally except on very rare occasions, having the whole of the world to travel. “Well, Mr. Manager, you have a very fine store here,” he said. “Yes we have and I don’t think, in all your travels, you will find a finer in any town in New Zealand with equal population.” “You carry very fine stocks I notice.” “Yes. We draw our stocks from headquarters in Palmerston North and we think if you will look at. the prices you will find that our values compare more than favourably with any in the island.” “Were the ’Xmas goods I sent you up to the mark?” “Yes. We were more than satisfied with the very fine range sent forward and this year prices are more reasonable than they have been for years.” “Did I not send forward any toys to you?” “No. If you remember wo mentioned to you that we have a number of people here who make their living at, toy selling and that we preferred to leave toys to them.” “Well, Mr. Manager, I must be pushing on. Must wish you the compliments of the season and a big Christmas bnsiness. Farewell! Farewell!”
BARR & TYER, It is possible the weather has been unseasonable with its grey days and chilly breezes, creating in one the feeling that Christmas is yet a long way off. But anyone suffering from this impression cannot possibly retain it once they come within the radius of the “glow” from the windows of this popular “Christmas gift Emporium.” It shouts“ Christmas” aloud and the mere sight of the display fills the mind with pictures of a happy Christmas morning with crowds of glad humanity, men and women, young men and maidens, boys and girls and babies, all rejoicing in the possession of the very gift they wanted. It is really a wonderful sight these windows present, the artistry in arrangement seeming to have imparted life to the inanimate objects displayed. A power in themselves to please, enduing them almost with voices to utter the fond wishes of prospective purchasers — “A Happy Christmas and a glad New Year.” The interior of the shop is just as full of the spirit of Yuletide. To fill the space at our disposal with a list of the goods displayed would be interesting, but neither as interesting nor as profitable as world be the personal visit of those looking for the right thing to give.
