Many reasons were advanced in an endeavour to solve the mystery. The eggs had all been marked and were counted each evening, as other feathered members of the fowlyard often succeeded in depositing an extra egg among the sitting in the absence of tins “cluekor” in quest of food. The only feasible solution. which offered was a doubleyolked egg had been aioyng the setting, and this accounted for the welcome addition to the brood.
