BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT.
The water works foreman reported as follows: —During the month I have been engaged in the fol-
lowing works: Laying three water services; cleaning out, a septic tank into borough sewer, and filling in same for a householder; building a concrete training wall up the pumping station and attending to all maintenance work in connection with the water and drainage. During the month by-law work lias also been dealt with. One itinerant license of £5 Os Od, one pedlar and a hawker’s license were collected. A number of hours were spent on the motor ear speeding with the result that 19 eases are now pending. Pumping station report. —During the month 1,200,000 gallons of water was pumped. The maximum current used was 30.5 amps. —Adopted.
GAS MANAGER’S REPORT. The manager reported that all the apparatus, at the works is in a fair state of repair anti working satisfactorily. During (lie month a ealifont and cooker were installed for consumers and a number of gas pipes and services were cleaned. All the surplus coke was disposed of and there is at present a good supply of coke in hand. —Adopted.
ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman report od that during the month the road staff lias been engaged in completing the top dressing of Main Street, *inixing asphalt in the yard, discharging sand and screenings, weeding Wharf street, asphalting footpath at old lire bell site, top dressing Johnston street with tar and chips and general maintenance. A start was also made at top dressing Russell street and laying asphalt on Cook Street footpath. Sixty barrels of tar were used on Main street and 23 on Johnston street. Arrangements have been made for mowing the grass at the cemetery.
The poundkeeper reported that during the month fifteen head of stock was impounded and driving fees to the amount of 16/- was collocated. —Adopted. GENERAL. Estimates and particulars in connection with a road drag and scraper were referred to the Works Committee.
It was decided that the fees for dog registration for the year 1926 be as follows: —For all bona fide sheep and cattle working dogs 2/6; for all other dogs 10/-. Accounts amounting to £1249 15s Id were passed for payment.
GAS WORKS
OCTOBER WORKING
The amount of gas manufactured during the month of October was 372,000 feet, which with the amount in the holder on October Ist, 18,000 feet, making a total of 390,000 feet. During the month 318,800 feet was used by consumers, 25,000 feet at the works, and there was 17,600 feet in the holder on November Ist. making a total of 361,400 feet and leaving 28,600 feet, representing 7.3 per cent, unaccounted for. Thirty three tons of coal were carbonised during the month producing 11,276 feet to the ton.
Receipts for the month totalled £2lO/4/2 and were made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £45 19/6, heat and power £lO2/11/11, coke sales £2O/9/7, tar sales £2O 5/-, weighing 10/6, fitting £l7/13/3, miscellaneous £2/14/5.
Expenditure for the month was as follows: —Coal £93/15/11, salaries and wages £42/2/10, fittings £24/13/8, working expenses £24/13 8, printing and advertising £ll/2/0, repairs £2/16/3, tools 7/3, cartage and freight, Power Board £l/15/0, Interest and Sinking Fund £59/11 8, a total of £239/12/3.
