HOSPITAL EXPENDITURE.
A circular Idler was read from the Palmerston North Hospital Board at Monday’s Borough Council meeting re proposed alterations at the hospital and giving particulars of a proposed loan. Cr. Adams said it was a scandal the way hospitals were spending ihe ratepayers’ money. It was nothing but spend, spend, spend with them. In his opinion hundreds went into the hospitals for a restcure.
Cr. McMurrav said the proposed alterations were on too big a scale altogether. The loan should also be made for a longer period —at least 25 years. The proposed new building should be built so that it could be added to and the suggestion of having two laundries he considered ridiculous. He suggested Mr. J. K. Hornblow (local representative on Ihe Board) should explain matters to the Council.
Cr. Winstanlcy said that recently five cases were admitted to the Palmerston Hospital in 35 minutes and not one of (hose people were there for a ‘rest cure.-’ Alore accommodation was wanted at the hospital but he did not think two laundries were necessary. Decided that the Palmerston North Hospital Board be notified that this Council is of opinion that the term of the proposed loan should be for 2(> years instead of 10 vears and that the building scheme proposed be modified and spread over the term of the loan.
