Two men were fined at Waipukurau for issuing art union tickets without a permit. It was stated by the police that in this connection funds for a church were being raised. A game of chess started in 1914 between Ernest Jackson, of York, •South Carolina, and James McGregor, of New South Wales, has just ended in a draw. It was conducted by correspondence, moves being made about every two months.
