SUSPENDED BY THE FEET.

A LINESMAN'S ORDEAL. Grey town, December 8. Presence of mind and good fortune averted the death of a linesman at Greytown yesterday afternoon, when some employees of the Wairarapa Hydro-Electric Power Board were attending to the street wires opposite the Bank of New Zealand in Main Street. One, named Chipper, was up a pole when he slipped and fell, his foot catching in the wires and suspending him head downwards above the concrete kerb. He was able to snatch a wire leading into a house. In doing so lie caused the 230 volt current to pass through his body, and although his action probably saved his life, methods of resuscitation had to l>e applied when his fellow workers had lowered him (o the ground. Chipper was able to return to his home in Carterton.
