♦— In a little while the wooden wing of Parliament House will be demolished, and after that a start will be made with the completion of a new Parliament House, which at present stands about haif-linished. The old building was erected in the very early days of the settlement of the country. A member of the Katana executive states that several more substantial residences will be commenced at Katana pa at an early date by llawke’s Bay Maoris, who will take up their permanent residence at Katana. A scheme is now under consideration to pump water from Turakina through a four-inch main, by hydro-electric power to give an adequate water supply for ail the requirements of the pa. —Wanganui Herald.
A ,resident of Havelock North was awakened from his slumbers at about half past 10 the other night (says the Hawke’s Bay Tribune) by the clucking of a hen in the immediate vicinity of the house, and having put a sitting of pheasant’s eggs under one of his fowls and he rose promptly to investigate, lie found the hen in a great state of excitement, due to the presence of a large hedgehog. A clean sweep of the nest had been made; there were the mutilated remains of live newlyhatched chickens and live eggs. Only one egg was intact. The resident, on the strong circumstantial evidence, executed the hedgehog.
