POPULARISING THE SEASIDE.
The Railway Department has definitely decided to run a Sunday excursion front Palmerston to Foxton, during the summer months, in order to accord Palmerston and district residents the opportunity of a “dip in the briney” and a sun hath ori the . sands more particularly to. those who may be derived tbe pleasure of such healthgiving relaxation for other reasons. This innovation will tend to further popularise our local seaside resort and encourage the Harbour Board in its developmental policy of what at present is its most valuable asset. The local Chamber of Commerce realises that increased population at the seaside adds to Foxton’s prosperity and is co-operating with the Harbour Board in that connection. The only drawback to the railway service is that passengers have to complete a three-mile journey from the railway terminus by some other means of locomotion. Local carriers, however, have decided to eater for railway passengers at reduced fares between the two points. Some day an electric railway will be an essential link between Foxton and the beach.
