MR. C. P. SKERRETT APPOINTED CHIEF JUSTICE.
SIR ROBERT STOUT RETIRES IN FEBRUARY.
Wellington, November, 30. The Chief Justice, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Stout, K.C.M.G., has intimated to the Government his intention to tender his resignation to take effect on February Ist., 192 G. The Government has offered the appointment of Chief Justice to Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., of Wellington and has been advised of Mr. Skerrett’s acceptance of the office. [The new Chief Justice, Mr. Charles Perrin Skerrett, was born and educated in Wellington. He was articled to the firm of Bell, Gully and Izard and admitted to the bar in 1885 and became King’s Counsel in 1907. He is president of the New Zealand Welfare League.]
