VALEDICTORY
Last evening a number of residents representative of the Foxton Bowling Club met at the residence of Air. and Airs Head, to say farewell to Air. Plead, and to present him with a token of esteem on behalf of members of that body, prior to his departure for Wellington Ibis morning.
Air. J. AI. Barr, in the unavoidable absence of Rev. W. IT. Walton, president of the Bowling Club, in an appropriate manner asked Mr. Head’s acceptance of a case of pipes as a token of the esteem in which Air. Head was held as a member of the Club. Mr. Barr said that All’. Head had not been a member for many years hut nevertheless he had endeared himself to all, and his rise as a player had somewhat approached the phenomenal. It was unnecessary for the speaker to comment at any length on ■that aspect, and members were indeed sorry Air. Head was leaving Foxton. Air. Barr said the Club’s loss was most unfortunate. As a townsman also Air. Head would he sorely missed, as during his residence here he had given his assistance to a number of lo’cal institutions. The speaker, on behalf of members of the Club, wished Mr. Head every success in his new sphere, and also extended the Club’s good wishes to Airs Head and family. Mr. D. Christie said he had pleasure in endorsing the previous speaker’s remarks. The Club was much indebted to Air Head for the good work he had done during his period of membership. He extended to Mr. Head best wishes for his success in his new position.
Mr. F. Wfoods, in expressing his regret at the departure of Mr. Head from Foxton, said as a foundation member of the Club, he was sorry to say good-bye to such a good member. Foxton Club could not afford to lose members of the stamina and ability of Mr Head. The presentation was not only an expression of the good wishes of members of the Club, but a token of appreciation of Mr. Head’s ~ work in the Club’s interests. He hoped in the near future to hear of Mr. Head’s vise in his new sphere of labours.
Mr. E. Huntley also added a few words in appreciation of Mr. Head’s connection with the Bowling Club, and said that not only could it be said that Mr. Head had become one of the Club’s best bowlers, and most consistent workers, but he was also one of the most popular of its members, and his departure would he greatly felt. (Hear, Hear). Mr. Head, in acknowledging the' good wishes and presentation, said it was indeed a surprise to him to be so honoured, and he appreciated very much the expressions of those present and the handsome present of which he had been made the recipient. He had taken a great interest in the Bowling Club, and he would he sorry to leave the good fellows lie had met. Members could rest assured he greatly appreciated their gift.
