REVENUE GAINS SLIGHTLY,
The latest: returns relating to the railway working account show the revenue and expenditure for the period April 1 to October 10. The total revenue on the North Island lines is given as £2,340,600 Ids 7<l, as against £2,071,702 18s 3d for the corresponding period of last year. The expenditure was £1,742,302 17s l()d, compared with £1,021, 878 0s 4d. The revenue, derived from the South Island lines was £1,431,250 4s 3d, the figures for 1024 being- £1,371,744 10s lid, and the ■ expenditure in the same section was £1,413,106 15s 9d, compared with £1,204,080 6s lid. The addition of other items brought the total revenue for the Dominion to £3,823,600 14s (id, and the expenditure to £3,297,144 16s 9d. The returns for the corresponding period last year were: Revenue £3,447,803 0s lOd, expenditure £2,023,314 0s Od. This represents an increase of about £2OOO in the excess of revenue over 'expenditure.
