OCTOBER GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of October have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: — The detailed particulars of the
Five bales at Blenheim were graded fine. Twenty-nine bales at Auckland, 120 at Foxton and 73 at Wellington were rejected and six bales at Wellington condemned. The following shows the number of bales graded at each port the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parethesis: —Fine 5 (48), good fair 287 (008), high fair 2809 (3573), low fair 2813 (3114), common 518 (308), rejected 222 (155), condemned 6 (4), a total of 6660 bales as against 7870 graded last year, a decrease of 1210 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows: —Auckland 1166, Foxton 2360, Wellington 2191, Blenheim 38, Dunedin 190, Bluff 715. The following is the detailed particulars of the tow graded :
Twelve bales at Auckland, 37 at Foxton, 22 at Wellington and five at Blenheim were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was: —Ist grade 198 (328), 2nd grade 843 (1106), 3rd grade 250 (299), condemned 76 (59), a total of 1367 as against 1792 graded for the same period last year, a decrease of 425 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: Auckland 258, Foxton 483, Wellington 401, Blenheim 52, Dunedin 12, Bluff 161. Stripper Tow:—Eighty-five bales at Foxton and 161 at Wellington were graded 2nd grade and 72 at Wellington 3rd grade, making a total graded of 318 bales as against 116 graded last year, an increase of 202 bales on last year’s figures. Stripper Slips:—Seventeen bales at Auckland 26 at Foxton and 35 at Bluff were graded 2nd grade, and 17 bales at Auckland, 28 at Foxton and 57 at Bluff were passed for export. Five bales at Auckland were condemned. The total number of bales graded was 185 as against 304 graded for the same period last year, a decrease of 119 bales.
