FOXTON UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the above was held in the Racing Clubs office on Thursday night, presided over by the President (Mr. W. T. Jewell). Also present were Messrs J. Thomson, S. Barber, D. R. Barron, E. Parkin, D. Christie, D. Ogilvy, S. Austin, H. Hutchins, C. A. Pearson, R. Hornblow and the secretary (Mr. F. Rimmer). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs H. Hornblow, F. A. Mason and G. Alexander. In opening the meeting the President congratulated the Association on the signal sucecss that its recent' motor cycle sports had proved to be. .General interest was being evinced in the Association and it only had to continue to make the society a power among the sports bodies of the district. To a great extent the success of the recent meeting was due to the efforts of the Manawatu Cycle Club, of Palmerston North, members of which had practically organised and carried out the whole programme. Thanks was also due to donors of prizes, etc. In this respect the people of Foxton appeared to be somewhat aloof and did not seem to realise that bread thrown on the waters on such occasions was returned four fold. Sports day and the day preeeeding were excellent days for Foxton business people and they should remember that this was due to the sports. The attendance at the meeting had been a very representative one of the district. A report of the New Zealand C l ycle Union meeting held on Sports Day was tabled without discussion. The balance-sheet in connection with the sports was read and disclosed a credit balance of £93 18s Id.

After general discussion in which members expressed gratification at the success of the meeting, the bal-ance-sheet was adopted. It was reported that no material damage had been done to the course by the motor cycles and that four loads of top-dressing was all that was required to renovate the track. The grass had been scorched but would revive after a shower or two. A motion of thanks was passed to the officials of the Palmerston North Cycle Club and all those who assisted or donated prizes in connection with the sports. Decided to grant the caretaker of the course £2 2s Od, Foxton Silver Band £5 5s Od, and the secretary £ls 15s Od for their assistance in connection with the meeting. It was decided to place £SO in the Post Office Saving Bank, to be earmarked for use next year in conjunction with the Labour Day meeting.

The secretary and treasurer were authorised to sign the necessary forms in connection therewith, on behalf of the Society. v Considerable discussion arose as to the form the February meet- ‘ ing should take. The President suggested a two-days- meeting with horse events on the first day and motor cycle races on the second. Mr. Hutchins considered it would be unadvisable to hold motor cycle sports in February as the course would cut up too much in the dry weather. Personally he would like to see pedestrian events included in the February programme. He had beeen approached on the matter by a number of local boys. He would like to see this matter discussed at a general meeting. General discussion ensued on the matter and it was finally decided that all amateur and push bike events be deleted from the programme. A programme committee consisting of Messrs C. A. Pearson, D. R. Barron, D. Christie, R. Bryant and J. Thomson, was then set, up to deal with the arranging of a programme to be submitted to next meeting for approval. It was resolved to apply immediately to the Wanganui District Committee for a permit for horse events. Decided to procure black and gold badges (Association colours) for officials next sports meeting. NEW MEMBERS. . The following new members were elected Misses Speirs and Austin and . Messrs Coughtrey, W. Ross, D. Gilbert and W. Jewell. Matters of minor importance were discussed and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
