BOWLING.

TRIANGULAR CONTEST. The first round of the annual Triangular Contest was played on the • local green . afternoon. Two rinks each from Levin and Shannon Clubs were present, and the resultant games were much in favour of Levin on the scores, ths figures being:—Foxton (4 rinks) 65 points; Levin (2 rinks) 54; Shannon (2 rinks) 32. The details are as follows: — Foxton: Winstanley, Bryant, Head, Roore (s) 25, v. Shannon: H. Butt, E. Butt, H. Jones, E. Bovis (s) 9. In this game Roore had registered 13-before Bovis scored 2, and continued to pile up the score throughout, with the exception that his opponent registered five singles up to the eighteenth head, and then two two’s. Levin: Smaille, Challies, Hawke, Clements (s) 25; Foxton: Downes, Walton, Woods, Nye (s) 13. In this game the scores stood 3 all on the fifth head, after which Clements drew away from his opponent and on the sixteenth head had established a lead of 15 —11. On the seventeenth head, however, the unexpected happened, Clements measuring in eight bowls, which put Nye out of the running with only four heads to go. Levin: Monks, Pyke, Percy, Bull (s) 29 v. Walker, Barr, Huntley, Admore (s) 14. Admore started off with 2 to his credit on the first head, but scored slowly throughout the game, the Levin rink showing su- ... perior form to that of their opponents.

Shannon: Newton, Clayton, B. Spencer, E. Spencer (s) 23 v. Healey, Pearson, Christie, Thomson (s) 13. In this game Thomson had a lead of one point'on the eighth head, 6 —5, after which Spencer added thirteen on the following five heads, giving Thomson a margin of twelve to pull up. Thomson added three 2 successively, the score being 18 —12 in favour of Shannon on the sixteenth head. Spencer improved his score by four ones, and Thomson added another one on- the final end. 23 —13. The visitors were treated to a tasty afternoon tea, which was much appreciated. At the conclusion of play, Mr. Bovis (Shannon) and Mr Pyke (Levin) returned thanks for the afternoon’s play, and for the hospitality extended by the ladies. Mr. Boms mentioned that a gala day has been arranged for Saturday, 21st inst., on Shannon green, and in the evening the official ceremony in connection with the turning on of electric light for night play will take place. Foxton Club is extended a hearty invitation to be present en force.

SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of members of the local'Bowling Club was held last evening for the purpose of discussing the Committee’s .recommendations for the holding of a shop day to'augment the Club’s funds. The meeting enthusiastically discussed the project, and numerous offers of a substantial nature were accepted in the way of articles for competition and goods for sale. It is anticipated that the Shop Day will be a great success, and it is the intention of members to do their best towards this end. Further particulars will be given as the arrangements proceed.

SECOND ROUND OF TRIANGULAR.

It was mutually agreed yesterday that the second round of the Triangular Contest be held at Shannon on "Wednesday next. The following will represent Foxton Club:—

Woods, Christie, Admore, Nye (s):

Winstanley, Head, Thomson Roore (s).

Emergencies: Barr, Walker, Healey, Huntley.

ANNUAL GRADING OF PLAYERS. The Handicapping Committee has graded players for the current season as. follows, and set their handicaps in each grade:— A Grade. —Nye scr., Roore scr., Admore 2, Thomson 2, Jno. Ross 2, Head 2, Wood's, 2, Christie 2, Huntley 2, Walker 4, Bryant 4, Barr 4.

B Grade. —Winstanley scr., Downes scr., Healey scr., Walton scr., Mattar- scr., Hollings scr., Newton scr., Pearson 2, Whibley 2, Hay 2, Powell 2, Nixon 4, Jas. Ross 4, Hinds 4, WyUie 4, Spring 4, Alexander 6, Smith 6, Perreau 0, Hornblow 6, McMullian 8, Parkes 8, Gamble 8.
