CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The monthly meeting was held on Thursday evening. Present: — Messrs A. E. Admore (president), D. Christie, G. E. Smith, W. T. Winstanley, R. McMurray and F. Rimmer (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs. F. Woods. H. Osborne and R. D. Barron. The Minister of Railways wrote re light railway to the beach, advising that he was getting a report on the matter and when he had received this he would communicate with the Chamber again. The president reported that a representative of the Railway Department had visited Foxton and had been taken to the beach by members of the Chamber and the Borough Council, and was very favourably impressed with the proposal, so much so that the Department would commence running Sunday trains on December 20, 1925, and it was left to the Chamber of Commence to call tenders for jjrices for conveying passengers from the Foxton station to the beach. It was resolved that lenders be called for conveying passengers from Foxton railway station to beach and return. Mr. Newton (Postmaster) wrote stating that he would be only too pleased to post up river reports from Woodville and Ashhurst in the front of the Post Office. In regard to the mail to the South Island which now closes at 12.40 p.m., it was decided to ask Mr. Link'lafer, M.P., to endeavour to have it altered to 3 so as to catch the night boat at Wellington. Accounts amounting to £5 were passed for payment.
