AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ PIPE BAND.
There was a moderate but very appreciative audience at the Town Hall on Thursday evening to witness the initial appearance in Foxton of the Australian Scottish Ladies’ Pipe Band. The programme submitted by this company was enthusiastically received, and fully merited the compliment. The vocal items, dances, etc., were all well executed, but special mention should be made of the Australian vocal compositions which are the original work of Drum-Major William Darwin, F.R.G.S., the honary organiser and manager of the Band, together with the recitations by Drummer Leura Bates, vocal items by Drummer Molly Innes, and pipe solos by Pipe-Major Jessie Young. The items by the combined pipe band were well rendered and stirring, and revealed the combination as one of high talent. It is the intention of the Pipe Band to pay a return visit to Foxton in a few week’s time, when they should receive the patronage of the general public which they undoubtedly merit.
