A reminder is given that Mr. «J. Linklater M.P., Reform Representative for Manawatu, will address the electors of Foxton in the Town Hall at 8 o’clock this evening. His Worship the Mayor (M. E. Pcrreau, Esq.) will preside. A meeting of Mr. Linklater’s Committee and supporters will be field in the C. M. Ross Co.y.’s rooms at 7 o’clock this evening.
MR. ROLLINGS AT RON (KITE A,
air. P. L. Rollings, the NationalLiberal candidate for Manawatu, addressed n well-attended meeting of electors at Rongotea this week. Mr Rollings criticised severely the Reform Party’s failure to deal effectively with the closer settlement of suitable land, the incidence of taxation, and the effect of encouraging the inflated unimproved nature of land to swell taxation which fell most severely on the small farmer.
Mr. Rollings outlined briefly the policy of the National-Liberal Party, but stressed the point in it which advocated restricted borrowing to maintain the country’s credit, economy in public expenditure land settlement, by putting into operation the compulsory provisions of the Statute to acquire suitable land for subdivision and more profitable working. Mr. Rollings stated that, if elected, ho would put the interests of the Manawatu district first and would strive for the deviation of the main trunk railway through Le-,vin-—Pox ton —Marton, which would serve Rongotea district and people, besides being a national work that would save the country £50,000 a year in running cost.
The speaker received a cordial reception, was given a good hearing, and accorded a unanimous vote of thanks.
