POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK
NEW SYSTEM OF CREDIT NOTES TO BE INTRODUCED.
An important statement bearing on the future policy of the Post and Telegraph Department in regard to ihc Post Office Savings Bank was made by the Postmaster- General (Sir James Parr) when speaking at the opening of the new post office at Eastbourne on Saturday. He intimated that a system of credit notes was to be introduced to meet the convenience of holiday-makers, and that the system would be in operation before the eml of the year.
“We propose shortly to introduce,” he said “ a system of credit notes in connection with the Post Office Savings Bank, whereby depositors, prior to the commencement of a holiday in New Zealand, may ho provided with a form of: remittance payable to themselves at any branch of the bank in the Dominion. This new system will, I hope, be in operation before the forthcoming Christmas holidays.”
Sir James Parr went, on to say that he considered that the new system would prove popular and a success. Most people desired a change when they received their holidays, however beautiful tKcir own town or borough might be. When they went away, of course, they needed money to spend, and under the present system it took some time to obtain a transfer of their accounts. The new system would get over this difficulty and prove a boon to holiday-makers.
