GREAT RUGBY RECORD.

HARRY JACOB HONOURED.

Over 130 people gathered at tlu* home of I lie'“combined” skipper’s father-in-law (Mr. Winiata), near Levin, to participate in the presentation of an illuminated address to Mr. Jacob (says the Chronicle).

Mr. J \V. Rimmer, chairman of the Management Committee of the iiorowlienua Rugby Union, said in his introductory remarks, that it gave him great pleasure to have the company of a man who had risen to such fame in Ihe football world as Mr. Jacob. (Applause). The gathering could not have been more truly representative, not only of this district, hut also of the Manawatu, Mr. Rimmer stated that the movement, was by no means in tin' nature of an individual effort hut was joined in by footballers throughout, the Manawatu Unions as well as Ihe supporters of the Wanderers’ Club. (

The Mayor of Levin, Mr. T. Hobson, said it gave him great pleasure to make a presentation to one living and in his prime, instead of adopting the usual course of singing a man's praises long after his death, and in handing an illuminated address to Air. Jacob he hoped the recipient would he aide to carry on for a long time to come. The manager of the representative team had informed him of the pleasure il gave in managing a team captained by Mr. Jacob, who had always insisted on the team upholding the honour of the Union, and had set the example by his own conduct while playing away from home. On Many occasions he had been called upon to play away from home, and it; was to compensate, in part, for the absence of her husband that Airs. Jacob was to he presented with a gold wristlet watch. In handing Airs Jacob the watch, Air. Hobson mentioned what pleasure it had given his wife to work with Mrs. Winiata and Airs Jacob at the Alardi Gras and similar functions.

“Eor they are jolly good fellows,” accompanied by tremendous cheering marked the handing of the watch to Airs .Jacob.

Mr. .Jacob, during liis acknowledgment, thanked one and all for tlie great surprise and the way in which they had turned up for the occasion. No mean paid of his success had been due to his wife, who had always urged him to take his place in travelling teams —even though it often meant separation for long periods. He had always been keenly interested in Rugby, and loved the bit of leather with a tittle wind in it. A surprise was also sprung on Mi. Winiata, sear., in the form of a handsome pipe and a supply of his favourite tobacco. This house

said AL*. Rimmer, had been for sears, an open one, and it was a pleasing thing to he able to acknowledge Mr. Winiaia’s hospitality. Mr. Hobson, on handing the gifts in the popular patron of the Wanderers' Club, said lie hoped Mr. Winiala would live a good many more years, and that his children and his children’s children would worthily carry on the traditions he had handed down. The following is Air. Jacob’s football record: —• 1912 — Juiiiin* liorowlienua. 1913 N.Z. Alaori Team (Australia). 1913 liorowlienua Rep.
