FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNEY AT PALMERSTON N.
The annual five-a-side hockey tournament played under the auspices of the Manawatu Hockey Association was held at the sports ground, Palmerston N., yesterday afternoon. The grounds were somewhat greasy, but, with the exception of a few pools, the conditions for play were quite satisfactory.
Ten teams were entered for the tourney, only one (Ohakea C) defaulting, and the standard of play of both the visiting- and local' (earns was above the average. The surprise win of the day was when Rongotea defeated H.S.O.G. in the semi-final, and was thus entitled to play off with Ohakea A for the final. The latter team eventually won by a hit behind, after a good game. FIRST ROUND. Ohakea A defeated Technical 3 —o, 11.5.0. G. defeated Carnarvon 3 — 6, Rongotea defeated Ohakea B I—o,1 —0, T.O.S. defeated Ohakea C by default, W.E.O.G. defeated Foxton I—o. SECOND ROUND. Ohakea A defeated Rougotea I—o, H.S.O.G. defeated T.O.G. I—o, WIE.O.G. defeated Technical I—o,1 —0, Carnarvon defeated Ohakea B 2 —l, Foxton defeated Ohakea C by default. THIRD ROUND.
Rongotea defeated T.O.G. by a hit behind, Foxton defeated Carnarvon 1 —0; H.S.O.G-. defeated W.E.O.G. by a hit behind. Ohakea A a bye. SEMI-FINALS. Ohakea A defeated Foxton 2 —o, Rongotea defeated H.S.O.G. I—o.1 —0. FINAL. + Ohakea A defeated Rongotea. A reminder is given of the meeting to be held in Perreau’s rooms to-night, at 7.30 o’clock.
