New York lias over 12,000 electric signs with over a million lamps to light them. The ship’s eat of a Royal Mail Steam Packet liner has now travelled over 100,000 miles. Almanacs dated 1636-40, which belonged to John Evelyn, the diarist, were sold for £3B at Sothebys. The output of British coal fell by 9,000,000 tons last year, and the exports by nearly 19,000,000 tons. The number of licensed motors in Britain in March, 1922, was 669,50. In March 1925, it was 1,094,530. The United States still has about 5000 buffalo, 8000 moose, 52,000 elk, 8000 antelope, and 7000 mountain goats. Two live machine gun cartridges have been found in the refuse at the Horsforth Urban Council’s refuse destructor. The eoucil drew the attention of the public to the danger caused by these and similar articles being placed among refuse. The word coroner is from the Latin ‘•'corona,” a crown, and it implies that a coroner represents the Sovereign in the performance of the duties of his office. There were coroners in 925, but it is not known what their duties were. The office of coroner as it exists in Britain to-day was created by Act of Parliament in 1276. The fattest man who ever lived was probably Daniel Lambert. He was born at Leicester in I<7o_, and died at Stamford in 1809. Ilis weight was 729 lb. He was Oft. Jin, round the waist and the calf of. his leg was 37in. in circumference. A group of 11 young men once stood within a buttoned waistcoat that had belonged to Lambert.
