INJURED BY LIGHTNING.
SETTLE It'S TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Eltham, August 28. At (lie. height of an electrical storm at Manganiingi, nine miles in thv hack country from Eltham, a terrifying experience fell to Mr Percy Brown, a settler, son of Mr Rohert. Brown, of Rapanui, W’eslmere. He was wholly unconscious tor an hour with concussion from lightning during which the storm raged ut its worst. After lunch Mr Down left, the homestead to go to the hack of the farm to round up sheep. Th ! e rain came down in torrents, and having no overcoat, Mr Brown was soon wet through. The storm grew worse, and when the thunder pealed AD - Browy sheltered under the lea of an old rata tree trunk. No more was remembered by Mr Brown till h‘e came to and fell dazed as lie lay on the ground with the rain pelting down on him and the thunder booming. He pulled out His watch and found tbaL he had been lying unconscious for an hour. A bolt of lightning hud probably struck the tree which, however, was not shattered. Mr Brown’s wet coat had toadied the tree and his clothes being wet, they probably acted as a conductor of the electricity. He managed to crawl to his home, and a doctor was called from Eltliam. ft was found that Mr Brown had suffered concussion from lightning striking him. Ho burns were on his body.
