TARANAKI BEAT AIANAW A T L’-HOR O WHEN UA.

Taranaki defeated ManawatnHorowhenua by 0 points to 7 at Palmerston North yesterday afternoon. The home team led by 7 to 3 at the interval. The visitors added a try half-way through the second spell, but the combined team appeared to have the game in hand when a pass by Williams to Wilson was inlereepied bv Penniall, and led to a try being scored by Robinson (forward). The combined team was unexpectedly given a chance of leeoverv. Law, after a good run, kicked, and racing to the post, Hohaia (Taranaki’s fullback) hooted the hall towards the line, with the whole visiting team in chase. Law, when three yards from the line, foolishly endeavoured to pick up, missed, and thereby threw away the game. On the other hand, a llii'-e try would have given victory. The home -ide’s score comprised a beautiful potted goal by Hunt, and a penalty by Jacob (both Horowhenua). Ward, Kivell, and Robinson scored unconverted tries for Taranaki in that order. Air. E. Bevan (Levin) was the referee.

Al ANAfIEAIENT COMMITTEE

AIEETS. Those present at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Tlorowhenua-Alana-valu Management Committee held in Levin, were: Messrs. Riminer (chairman). Sloan, Anderson, Erechliing, Peters, McDonald, Wrigley. Robertshaw, Hutchens, McMillan, Robinson, Austin, Hannan and Dalzell. Among the matters dealt with were tin* following:— Regarding the protest of the Moutoa Club, against the referee’s decision in the Alontoa-Sliannon match played at Shannon a fortnight ago, the referee (AH. A. (tgorge) reported ihoi first before [he end of tile firs! exim 12 minutes play t consequent upon there being no -cove at the end of the game pioper), Moutoa appealed for a free kick for m. infringement, but iie made it a serum in tlie middle of the field. Mr. Sloan, representative of the Referee's Association, said the referee in question was absolutely wrong, in that he should have given a kick at half-way. Air. Austin thought that •’ the match were re-played (and he though! it should) it should he played at AFoutoa. Air Robertshaw was in accord with the first half of the previous speaker's suggestion, but was strongly against a re-play taking place at Moutoa. Tie could not see why Shannon should he penalised through a referee’s wrong decision. In rebuttal of what Air. Robertshaw had stated in regard to the place of re-play. Air. Austin said that Moutoa was appealing on the grounds of having to travel twice to the same place, as when they proceeded to Shannon on the first occasion they had to ferry across the Hooded Manawatu and suffered a certain amount of hardship in so

doing. The secretary (Air. Carmichael) said lie did not think the;game should he played away from Shannon, ns the mutch wo'uld he really a re-play of the original fixture and he agreed with Air. Rohertshaw that the Shannon Club should not .-utl'er through a technical error of the referee. Air. Anderson said the Moutoa players were also penalised if they had to go hack and play the match at Shannon. Air. Robinson concurred.

A very animated discussion then ensured between members as to the claims of both clubs until a definite motion was moved and seconded hy .Messrs. Austin and Robinson, respectively, that the -Mon-ton-Shannon game he re-played, ultimately being carried. Air Austin I lien asked for definite voting as to whether or not the re-play should be drawn for or, alternatively, played at Shannon. The ensuing vote resulted in a draw, the chairman giving his easting vole in favour of Shannon.

(twin”- to the omission of the date in a list of fixtures, the Aliraim;Tokomaru match was not played, bur on the motion of Air. DalzelJ it was decided |lmt the match will be played at Aliranui on Saturday next.
