The friends of Mrs Frank Eaikt-s. Orona Downs, will regret to learn that she is at present indisposed and is in a Private hospital in Palmerston North.
The friends of Mr. \Y. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, who is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital, will he pleased to learn that he is progressing favourably.

A man named Charles llaslam Holland, who has been wanted by the Auckland Police for some years was arrested by Constables Owen and Ryan last night. He appeared before Mr. D. W. Robertson, .1.P., this morning and was remanded to Anekland.
Another old landmark in Grcytown gave way to the “axeman's swing" on Thursday (says the Standard). A giant chestnut, planted by Mr. W. F. Roydhouse, in Kuratawhiti Street, some oil years ago, was felled —producing a goodly amount of firewood.
The anniversary services of the Foxtail Melhodirs Church are to be celebrated to - morrow. The morning l service will be conducted by Rev. S. Perymnn and Rev. F. McDonald will preach in the evening. The choir will render the anthems, “Come Thou Fount," and “Lo my Shepherd is Divine."
Last Friday night Mrs Owen received word that her mother had been taken seriously ill at Wait am and in consecpienec Mr. and Mrs Owen set out immediately for Taranaki. On arrival at Waitara they conveyed the sufferer to Wanganui for special treatment, where she is .reported to he making satisfactory progress.
In conversation with the Mayor (M. E. Perreau, Ksp.) this morning our representative was informed that he had been endeavouring to obtain official information for the public as to Ihe present position of the Fox ton Silver Hand and the likelihood of it being resusi-itaied. Apart from the fact that the .secretary (Mr. •). Madden) and Mr. D. W. Robertson have resigned there is little information available hut it is hoped that the playing members will re-unit e and Fox lon siill have a band.
Members of the' W.C.T.U. held their monthly meeting in the Salvation Army hall on Thursday afternoon lasi, when they had the pleasure of again meeting Miss Henderson the organiser of the union. Mrs Downs gave a very interesting report of the convention held in Feileling early in the month, and it was decided to celebrate Franchise Day with a social even-' inc l to be held in the Presbyterian schoolroom on Wednesday the 23rd September, when all members and friends are cordially invited to be present.
