LMPROVFAIENTS TO GROUNDS. Recently the local Slate School Committee found themselves in the happy position of being entitled to receive i'l(it) odd by wav of subsidies not collected in the past. The money received, the committee losl little time in putting it to good use. a special committee went into the (piestioii of improvements lo the grounds ami as a result of decisions arrived at, plans and specifications of proposed works were drawn up by Mr. F. ('. Hay. and tenders called for the laying down of concrete paths at the school. Mr. T. Hunt wa- the successful tender and already work has been commenced
It is the intention.of the committee to erect a retaining wall abou 21 indies high along the sand bank on the southern boundary of the school, while concrete paths will be laid down from the front wicket gate to the south-east corner of the.school, branching there, one path continuing straight down the side of the building and the other curving round the front to conform with the already constructed asphalt path from the double gates to the main entrance of the school. Another path will then run down the north side, round the back and join up with the oilier path from the south side. ft is also the intention of the committee lo remove the existing lockcrv around the (lag staff and to lay down in its place a concrete pedestal to hold the pole. Seats will also be erected along the northern side of the school, which is fairly sheltered and catches all the morning sun, thus oil ending the children a very necessary accomodation.
