SIXTH ATTEMPT TO TAKE LIFE.
MAX SPENDS LAST PENNY ON POISON. Auckland. August 3.2 th. I'mistial circumstances surronndded the admission to the Public Hospital recently of an old man, .lames Craig Cummings, aged 74, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day for the sixth time since 1007 with attempted suicide.
Sergeant Cnlwell said that accused had no money and no friends, lie was making his twentieth appearance in court. Ilis record included mostly convictions for ilninkeness. Ito had already served two sentences, each of six month's imprisonment., for attempting to lake his life. Accused spent his last penny in purchasing a bottle of poison, went to the Hospital and swallowed the contents, and then walked inside to die. The .Magistrate, Mr. Boynton, said that it was useless allowing aei used his liberty, and he would he belter under supervision. He would be sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
