DANGEROUS BEND
At lost night’s Borough Council meeting n loiter was received from the Manawatu County Council forwarding the following resolution past nl their Inst meeting:—“That it he :i recommendation to the Foxton Borough Council to fill in the side drain and otherwise improve the Boundary Bond between the County and the Borough, leading to Bussell street. A letter was also received from tlie T’oxton Chamber of Commerce urging the Council to take some action to prevent further accidents at this point.
Cr Cowley said that the corner was not a dangerous one. Excessive speed was the cause of accidents.
The Mayor stated that he had received a verbal message to the ell eel !hai the Manawatu County Council was prepared to pay hall the cost >r obtaining a survey and straighl■nitlg the road. Cr. Winstnnley outlined an experience he had had when negotiating the bend, which he considered dangerous. The Council should ui-o consider some improvement to the bond ut the corner of Patrick and Purcell streets.
Cr. Woods said (the Council should do something to prevent accidents. The drain should he filled in and then the Council should wait until the .Main Highway Board took over the road before doing any more work.
Or. Thompson objected to the tilling in of the drain. If the drain tins tilled car- could go through Ibe fence. Speed was the whole trouble. This particular corner was not dangerous but. be would suggest the erection of “dangerous bend" notices to prevent any further accidents.
The matter was referred to the Public Works Committee to confer with the Manawatu County Council with power to net, the corner at the -oiltli ciul of the borough also to be dealt with.
