FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING,

The usual monthly meeting' of the Foxion Borough Council was held in the-Council Chambers last night. Present Ilis Worship the Mayor (M. E. Perroau Esqu.), and MeMurray, Thompson, Woods, Cowley, Winstanlev, Rand, Parkin, Walker and Adams. / CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : , From the Ilorowhenua Electric Power Board re pumping station installation and enclosing account to cover cost of work. —Decided to pay the account. From the Kairanga County Council re heavy traffic license fees and enclosing a copy of minutes of a conference held on the 30th inst. and stating that that Council would be greatly obliged if the local Council would pass a resolution confirming the action of its representatives at the conference in respect to the agreement arrived at. —Decided to endorse the action of the local representatives at the conference. GEN ER A Ij. The local representatives were accorded a vote of thanks for the efforts on behalf of the borough in connection with the above matter. It was decided that notice be given to all property owners that the nightsoil service in the area sewered in 1923 Will be discontinued as from 30th September and that notice will he further given that the nightsoil service will be discontinued as from 31st March next in the area .inst finished: that as from, the 31st March next the nightsoil area of the Borough shall consist of Avenue Road lo Spring street, Norbiton Road, Russell and Jenks street, and that the nightsoil area he notified accordingly. Cr. Adams drew the Council’s attention to the fact that people were in the habit of peeling fruit in the Main street and said this nuisance should he abated.

It was decided lo go iuto the matter.

ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT,

During the month (he road staff have been employed on the following works: —Clearing drains in Union, Purcell nndßaker streets, and Avenue .Road, east of Spring street, putting in new culvert at junction of Baker and Howan streets; extending culvert junction of Alain and Clyde streets; mowing and weeding Triangle; patching ruts Park street; repairing fences round culverts in various streets and general maintenance.

The grass has been removed from the west side of the 1 own Hall and Triangle. As there is no fared metal on hand, the approach to Ihakara Gardens has been made up with cinders. The field gun from the Council yard has been placed in a stragetic position in the Triangle. It has not been possible to obtain the use of the country road grader and this is unfortunate as its services would have been of great benefit to our roads. No metal lias been received from Belmont during the past month owing to a breakdown. Cook street is being graded at present, in anticipation of laying concrete later on. —Adopted.

PUMPING STATION REPORT. During the month the gas engine was working for !) hours pumping out the storage tank from the septic tank and 35,000 gallons of vfoter were pumped to the tower during the month. The maxbnum current used is 27 amperes. Maintenance cost Waterworks £l2 5s Od. —Adopted.

WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT.

During tin? month the Water and Drainage staff have laid Gladstone and Coley streets set ers. H.is work has tost moi'3 th : i was estimated on s>< < ount of v, A weathei. It was attempted to put a manhole in Avenue south sewer on Mr. Carmont’s property to see what it was like before the sewer was commenced and running sand was found at 3ft. The Mayor and Town Clerk inspected if and it was decided to try higher ground. A start was made to finish Robinson street north, and Park street east sewers. This work is about completed and was a little drier than the Coley St. one and has proved that it will he inadvisable to undertake any further work until the summer time, in January or February next it it is decided to complete the work with the balance of the loan money. The manhole started on Mr, Carmont’s property has been left open for any Councillor to inspect. It has also been attempted to put a manhole in Norbiton Road sewer in Heta street with the same result as the one on Mr Carinont's property and this has been left open for inspection also. — Adopted. It was decided that the work of laying sewers he suspended until the summer, Councillors expressed regret at having to take sueli actions, but it was impossible to carry on under the existing conditions, it was also decided to store all sewer laying timber and material.
