MAW with broken neck.

Nelson, August 1

A ease of recovery from a broken neck is reported here, frequently to be seen walking about Nelson steadily recovering from his injuries is Air. Norman Brme, whose neck was broken as the iemili of a fall from a motor lorry- in Riwaka.

Air. Bruce was admitted to tire Nelson Hospital some months ago wiih paralysis of one side of his body. Two days previously he had fallen from the back of a motor lorry and bumped his head severely on the ground. This injury was followed at once by complete paralysis of the body from the neck downwards. By the tune he was admitted to hospital one side had recovered all its functions.

in reply to a press representative, Dr. Low, resident surgeon at the Nelson Hospital, said an X-ray examination revealed the fact that the palienl had suffered a fracture and dislocation! of the vertebrae of the neck. At the end of three months JR was discharged quite well, apart from some weakness in the left hand, which was showing promise of ultimate recovery. He mill had pain and stiffness in his neck.

The case is of great medical interest in that fractures of the neck are almost always followed by death instantaneously or in a few days through compression of the spinal cord.
