Francis Snmnierhey Drilies, a mediant, of Wellington, had costs entered him in the .Magistrate’s Court yesterday under rather unusual circumstances (says the Dominion.)
The railway anihorilies proceeded againd him for occupying a reserved seat in a train and travelling in it from Palmerston North to The excuse for the defence was that when the train left Wellington the seat was unoccupied, and naturally thinking that the rightful owner was not. coming, Drilies made the best of it.
Afr. C. R. Orr-AYnlker, S.M., said he diil not wish to fine the defendant. However, the law must tie observed, and for that reason lie would enter costs against him. The expenses amounted |o £5 95., and judgment was accordingly made in favour of the Department.
