The resolution passed at the meet in"; on 20th March, “that no existing highways lie deleted from the list of main highways at present,’' was duly forwarded to the I ’on rd. The bridge across lhe 'Manawatu river on Shannon-h oxton road was damaged, the Shannon land spans being washed away and hank eroded, leaving a gap of 100 feel. In order not to completely close tlie highway for trains, a punt has been installed, ponding decision as to the site for a new bridge. The Whirokino ieuglli of No. 1 highway between the bridge and Foxton was under water, and traffic bad to lie diverted round via Shannon. In June of this year another flood occurred, causing blocks on both roads and eroding more of the bank at Manawatu bridge.
