BOOKMAKER FINED.
HEAVY PENALTY IMPOSED. Auckland, July 13. Carl Ernest Ekuran, aged 38, was lined at the Police Court £3OO, or in the alternative six months’ imprisonment for carrying on business as a bookmaker. It was stated that accused’s settling sheet on one day’s transactions was £B7. He owned a hairdresser’s and tobacconist’s shop at Mount Eden. When arrested he said he could get a bond for £6OO.
