FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

A well-attended and enthusiastic .meeting of members of the Bowling Club was held last evening. The annual report (published last baturday) and balance-sheet were read and adopted.

The retiring president (Mr J. M. Barr-) briefly reviewed the club s activities during the past year, and also thanked members of the committee and members of the Club generally for their assistance during his term of office, and said it had been a pleasure to him to serve in that capacity for the season. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Rev. \\. H. Walton; vice-presidents, Messrs J. M. Barr, Roore Rangiheuea and E. W. Huntley; committee, Messrs F. Woods, W. Nye, D. Christie, John Ross ami S. Head; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Downes; auditor, Mr G. F. Smith; selection committee, Messrs Nye, Woods and Huntley; delegates to Centre, Messrs Christie and Nye; green superintendent, Mr D. Whiblev.

Occasion was taken to mention the great assistance Mr Whibley had rendered the Club since its inception, and the thanks of members was voiced in this connection.

The winners of the Wilford Cup last season (pairs tournament), Messrs Ad more and Powell, were presented with the trophy by Mr Barr (the retiring president), who congratulated the players on their win. Mr Ad more responded on behalf of himself and Mr Powell.

The following new members were elected: —Messrs E. Cowley, J. Newton, G. F. Smith, J. Ryan, E. (!. Alexander.

The resignation of Mr J. MeColl was accepted with regret. Votes of thanks were passed to the following:—Mr T. W. Winstanle.v (outgoing auditor), D. Whibley, Thomson, and Admore. A morion bv Mr Christie. “That it he a recommendation from the annual general meeting of the Foxton Rowling Club that in future meetings of the Mnuawatu Centre he held on Wednesdays, at 1 o'clock, and that a week’s notice he given delegates,” was carried.

A motion by Mr Winstanlev, in. reference to a proposal of taking up shares in the Starr-Bowkeit Society in the name of the club, occasioned considerable discussion, and Air Winstanley subsequently withdrew (lie motion.

It was decided, after consideration of the matter, that the annual subscription for the coming year he £2 15s, same to cover all expenses. It was decided, as the outcome of .Mr Winstanley proposal to institute a rinks ladder and the appointing of rinks to play together throughout the season, that, a pairs ladder be set up and be conducted on the lines of the ordinary singles ladder

A tender for the lighting of the Club’s green by electricity for night play was read, the amounting being considered beyond that, of which members would approve, and the matter was allowed to stand in abeyance.

The ncwlv-elected president, Rev. \Y. 11. Walton, on taking the chair, expressed his pleasure at being elected to that position, and said that although he was a young player so far as his connection with the game of howls was concerned, and he thought that perhaps older players should have taken the position, he would endeavour to carry out the duties of president creditably, and he would do his utmost that the Club should have a successful period during his term of office. Before the meeting closed, the President took occasion to refer to the great loss an old and muchloved member of the Club, Air D. Whibley had sustained in the death of his wife, and moved a motion of sympathy with Air Whibley, this being carried in silence, members standing. Air Whibley thanked those present.

The outlook for a successful season appears particularly bright this year, and as a good and enthusiastic general meeting generally presages a close interest in the current season’s play, bowlers may look forward to a. real good season this year.
