BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough. Council was held in the Council Chambers last night, presided over by His Worship the Mayor (M. F. Perreau, Esq.). Also present were Crs Me Murray, Winsianley, Woods, Thompson, Cow-it-v, Parkin, Walker and Adams. ,Vn apology for absence was received from Cr. Kami. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows:

From the Foxlon Bowling Club, requesting n grunt of one truck of sharp sand for (lie purpose of treating the Club’s green. —-Declined.

From the secretary of the Palmerston X. Chamber of Commerce, asking whether the Council would be prepared to listen (o Mr X". B. McDonald. <>f Wellington, if he came jo dismiss the matter of the X.Z. and South Seas Exhibition. — Referred to the Manawatu FlaxmilUrM Association.

From Foxlon lire Board, stating that at a recent- meeting the Superintendent reported that there

is stiil a shortage of tire plugs at .Johnston and Cook Streets, and that there are still live plugs and indicators overgrown with grass and hedge growths, and requesting that the matter be brought under Ihe in'il ice of tin* Council. —Decided to ask the Board to locate the plugs which would then he attended to. GENERAL. Tt was divided to call .applications for the position of borough ranger. Two designs were received from Ah' Harris for drop curtains for the Town Hall, and these were approved for immediate carrying out. Decided to accept Mr Evans' price for fencing at 8s per chain, end Ire,- planting at 8s 3d per 10b. Two lenders were received for c lit ting trees in Victoria Park, but it was decided not to accept ally i cutler. Mi- A. E. Tollison's price of Cl for repairing the Pound cottage was accepted.

The Town Hull Committee re-

The borough road foreman month the following worksTA reported as follows: — During liie past month the following ■works have been eavgied out: — Carting, spreading and blinding metal on Moutda Road and Weeding water channels wharf St., ti miming willows and forming water table Harbour St. Extending culvert Union St., and renewing culvert Wharf St., ami general maintenance. Owing to a break-down in the crushing plant at Belmont we have not lately received any metal. The COO ton order placed by the Council is nearly completed and it will be necessary to obtain as much more as we possibly can. We have not yet been able to obtain the services of the County grader but have the promise from tlie engineer, that ii will he at our disposal in the near 1 mure. The break in the supplying of metal is allowing us to finish the cleaning of drains and to carry out some of the works passed at last Council meeting.—Adopted.
