As ;i result of prolonged spell of wet weather the Mnimwatii Kivor is at present very high ami is reported to he. rising steadily at AsliImrsL : At tlie site of the Shannon-Fox-lou bridge the Mann wutu river overdo wed on the Shannon side on Thursday,.there being a sea of water extending right up to the newly formed hank, and that, evening tlie water was two feet from the top of the hank on the Montoa side of the river. It is reported that the llood broke through the hank a! the corner near the store, at Afouloa. Settlers have had an anxious time protecting their properly and several had to sit up all night to .he in readiness t<> make a hurried exit, should the river .rise any higher. This morning the driver of the S.O.S. service ear, from Wellington, reported that the land was inundated from the Government drain to tlie Whirokino bridge to a depth of one foot, and lie did not expect to he able to make the return trip this evening. Last night the Manawatu had overflowed its hanks at Kangiotu, and much land about the Halfcrown at Kangitane was covered with Jlood water. It is reported that the depth of water at tlie locality is increasing, and there is a likelihood of the road being blocked by to-night. The river at Foxtail is about four feet oil' the lop of (lie wharf, and has Hooded some of the local mills.
