HOCKEY.

Foxton journeyed to Palmerston yesterday to play a match against High School Old Girls and received a severe beating, the final score being B—2.8 —2. Rain had fallen continually during the morning and the ground was in a very greasy condition with occasional pools of water. Foxton was the only team present with a full team, the other competing teams having only eight players a piece. For the first spell Foxton appeared to have the best part of play, the first scores being registered by Mrs Ball, 2 —nil. However, Miss M. Waters scored for the home team, shortly after followed by a goal scored by Miss G. Hands. At half time the scores were 2 all. In the second half Foxton was completely' defeated, further goals being scored in ILS.O.G.’s favour by Miss McKenzie 1, Miss Hands 1, Miss Me Sweeney 1, Mis Ale Minn 3. The weekly meeting of the executive of the Alannwatu Hockey Association was held in Palmerston X. on Tuesday night, Air R. L. Lancaster presiding. A letter was received from the N. Hockey Association, forwarding conditions in regard to the coming match between Alanawatu and Australia. —Received, it being decided to reply stating that the amount of the guarantee (£35) wo- j uld be deducted from the gross proceeds of the match. The selection committee was instructed to nominate Alanawatu players for the New Zealand team. After a. little discussion it was resolved to ask the Mayor and citizens of Palmerston N. to welcome the Australian players on their arrival at Palmerston. In connection with the visit of the Ruahine ladies on July' 15th., it was decided to recommend to the ladies’ executive to make arrangements for their entertainment. Field practice for the men’s representative team will be carried out at the Sporlgrouud ou Alonday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at (i. 30. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 o’clock, physical training for the men will be indulged in. The secretary was instructed to arrange matches with Wanganui, Olaki or Wairarapa for July Bth, in order to give the Alanawatu team some useful practice. Ou July Ist ladies’ and men’s A and B games will be played. Air Cliffe was appointed a delegate from the Referees’ Association to the New Zealand Referees Conference to be held in Wellington on Monday.
